Trainers Subsidy

Thinking of bringing your horses to Kangaroo Island in 2026? The Kangaroo Island Racing Club has a remarkable offer for you! 

All categories listed below will be at no charge to you and include a driver and one passenger at no cost.

Conditions

Bookings in the first three categories (Hore Truck, Three-Horse Float, and Two Horse Float) include a driver and one passenger. Bookings must be made through Kangaroo Island Racing Club. Please call James Bates on 0400 852 522.

  • Any trainer traveling with a One-Horse Float will need to book directly with SeaLink.
  • All the above floats must carry the minimum number of horses indicated or a chargeback of $200 for each horse not carried will be charged to the trainer making the booking.
  • Once a booking has been made and confirmed, no changes can be made to travel dates and times.
  • No travel can be made prior to Tuesday 14th Jan for the 18th Jan meeting, to Tuesday 13th Jan for the 17th Jan meeting.
  • No travel can be made prior to Tuesday 18th Feb for the Cup Carnival, to Tuesday 17th Feb for the Cup Carnival.
  • Only horses nominated and accepted can travel, companion ponies are not included in this offer.
  • Prior approval must be obtained from the Kangaroo Island Racing Club for approval to camp on course.

Arthur Daw Memorial Trainer Challenge 

With prize money doubled to $10,000 for the 2025/2026 racing season on Kangaroo Island, the winner will be the trainer with the most amount of points at the end of day-3. In the event of a draw, the trainer with the most number of winners will be declared the winner of the 1st prize. In the event of a draw for 2nd and 3rd, the trainer with the maximum number of place getters will be declared the winner

The points will accumulate over the 3-days of racing as follows: 

  • 4 Points for each winner
  • 2 Points for 2nd placegetters
  • 1 Points for 3rd placegetters

*A 5 point bonus will be awarded for any trainer starting horses on every day of the 3-days of Kangaroo Island racing.

Arthur Daw Memorial Trainer Challenge 2026 Prizing: 

  • 1ST $7,000
  • 2ND $2,000
  • 3RD $1,000

For Jockeys

Jockeys Subsidy 

Free walk on ferry transport from Cape Jervis to Penneshaw and return Penneshaw to Cape Jervis is available to all jockeys on each day of racing.

Ralph Turner Memorial Jockeys Challenge

The winner will be the jockey with the most amount of points at the end of day 3. In the event of a draw the jockey with the maximum number of winners will be declared the winner

The points will accumulate over the 3 days of racing as follows: 

  • 4 Points for each winner
  • 3 Points for 2nd placegetters
  • 2 Points for 3rd placegetters
  • 1 Point for all unplaced runners
  • Placegetters will be declared the winner

Plus a 5 point bonus will be awarded for any jockey riding horses on every day of the 3 days of racing.

Ralph Turner Memorial Jockeys Challenge 2026 Prizemoney: 

  • 1ST $2,000
  • 2ND $650
  • 3RD $350
