Racing SA, in consultation with the ATA SA, provides the following update regarding arrangements to support trainers and participants in the Port Lincoln and Eyre Peninsula region.
A travel subsidy of $550 per starter will be made available for horses trained in the Port Lincoln region, running in a race outside of the region, effective from Saturday, 4th October, throughout the month of October.
The meeting scheduled for Port Lincoln on Sunday, 5th October, will be abandoned. Racing SA is open to splitting races at other meetings where appropriate. Notably, meetings scheduled for Jamestown and Morphettville on 4th October and Gawler on 6th October will all be eligible for the aforementioned travel subsidy.
The meeting scheduled for Port Lincoln on Sunday, 26th October, has also been abandoned. A replacement meeting will be conducted at Clare on Sunday, 26th October, with preference in the ballot order to be given to Port Lincoln and Eyre Peninsula trainers. For this replacement meeting, as an alternative to the travel subsidy, Racing SA will arrange for horse transport to service the meeting at Clare. A truck service will travel from Port Lincoln to Clare and return. Racing SA will circulate booking details in due course.
“These arrangements are a starting point to supporting local participants in Port Lincoln and the Eyre Peninsula. By no means do they offset the loss of local race meetings and the subsequent disruption to racing; however, it demonstrates the commitment that Racing SA has to the region.” Ryan Stanaway, COO, Racing SA.
As outlined, Racing SA will continue to monitor the Port Lincoln track regularly and work closely with the Club regarding ongoing remedial works to ensure the Club can safely return to racing as soon as possible.
