Morphettville Next Stop for Pony Racing on Adelaide Cup Day

Fresh off an emotional win in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap at Flemington, superstar jockey Jamie Kah will join some of South Australia’s best young riders on Sunday morning as they prepare for the Morphettville Pony Races on Adelaide Cup Day.

Kah is a passionate ambassador for the pony racing in her hometown State, and along with her fly in/fly out visit on Sunday, the 12-time Group 1 winning jockey is aiming to add a second Adelaide Cup to her collection when she rides talented South Australian stayer The Map in the $350,000 Group 2 (3200m).

Kah last won her hometown Adelaide Cup after piloting Daqiansweet Junior to victory for Phillip Stokes two years ago.

Monday’s Adelaide Cup program features two separate pony races, and the first two across the line in each race qualify for April’s finals at Randwick during Sydney’s Autumn Carnival.

An expected top of 36 degrees is forecast for Morphettville on Adelaide Cup Day, and with the safety and welfare of our human and equine participants at the heart of everything that Racing SA does, conditions are being monitored closely.

Under hot weather protocols there will be additional water, hoses, buckets and misting fans available for horses, along with the misting systems and fans already in place in the stalls. All swabbing stalls are air conditioned.

The National Pony Racing Series is designed to create awareness about career opportunities in the thoroughbred industry, and to educate young riders about thoroughbred welfare and life after racing.

The series is a partnership between Thoroughbred Industry Careers (TIC) and Pony Club Australia.
