Country Racing’s Marathon Cup Run

A massive ten weeks of country cups covering most of South Australia will run between the end of January and Easter.

The marathon run of country cups kicks off with the Strathalbyn Cup on the 28 January. An easy day trip from Adelaide, the Strathalbyn Cup is the perfect excuse for a day of provincial racing and fantastic hospitality on the Fleurieu Peninsula.

February starts with the 2024 Ceduna Foreshore Hotel Ceduna Cup on Saturday 3 February which kick starts a run of cups on the Eyre Peninsula. This includes the Lock Cup on Sunday 25 February, the 2024 MGA Insurance Group Port Lincoln Cup on Friday 1 March, the Penong Cup held on Saturday 9 March, the Kimba Cup in Port Lincoln on Sunday 17 March and culminates on the West Coast with the 2024 Streaky Bay Cup on Saturday 23 March.

Away from the Eyre Peninsula, February sees the annual Kangaroo Island Racing Carnival. Held between Thursday 15 February and Saturday 17 February, this iconic carnival is not to be missed. Held on the picturesque Kangaroo Island, this carnival is a celebration of all things racing and local food, wine and spirits.

In the southeast of the State, the 2024 MiniJumbuck Naracoorte Cup will be held on Sunday 11 February and the Mount Gambier Gold Cup on Friday 22 March. The final cup in the Southeast held during this ten-week period is the Penola Cup on Easter Sunday, 31 March at the stunning Penola Racecourse 

Completing this marathon stretch of country cups and feature race days is the Easter long weekend. Oakbank will once again host the historic Easter Saturday and Easter Monday races whilst north of Adelaide, Clare Valley Racing Club will once again open their gates and host Easter Saturday racing.

This fantastic ten-week run of country races are not to be missed, covering a sizeable area of South Australia from the edge of the Nullarbor, across to Kangaroo Island and all the way down to the southeast and near the Victorian border.
