Picturesque Jamestown held their annual Jamestown Cup last Saturday. Perfect spring weather greeted an excited and youthful crowd as they flowed into the racecourse, on the outskirts of Jamestown.
Inside the Jamestown Racecourse, the track is a field of canola which was blooming, horses appeared to float through a field of flowers as they race on the far side of the track.
Everyone at the track was in high spirits throughout the day with the knowledge that it was the perfect way to spend the Saturday of the October long weekend. Although the Jamestown Cup was being held at the same time as the AFL Grand Final, punters weren’t deterred and the club provided large screens for everyone to follow along with the action at the MCG in between races, ensuring no action was missed either in Jamestown or in Melbourne.
Bright Spring colours were on full display, with a number of patrons choosing to wear flowing sun dresses, which continued into the Fashion at the Races competition. A closely fought contest saw competitive fields of entrants battle it out for the sash. Ultimately, Melissa Gregorace won the Best Dressed Lady category with a bright skirt and white blouse complemented with purple millinery.
On the track there was plenty of action. Stacey Metcalfe kick started the day with a win in Race 1 as she continues finding form after her return from injury. Apprentice jockeys Britney Wong, Jade Doyle and Caitlyn Munro all collected a win each throughout the day before Sairyn Fawke had a riding double including taking out the Jamestown Cup aboard Kalamon. Kalamon was trained by Richard & Chantelle Jolly with this win meaning they have claimed back-to-back Jamestown Cups. It is too early to tell whether Richard & Chantelle Jolly will look to attempt the three-peat in 2024!
A truly memorable community country cup and is one to not miss in 2024!
