The Tony and Calvin McEvoy stable return home chasing a bite of increased prizemoney with promising filly Coco Sun in Saturday’s $120,000 Listed Oaklands Plate (1400m) at Morphettville.

The daughter of The Autumn Sun was a $250,000 purchase from the 2022 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and Calvin McEvoy said their opinion of the filly was a big one.

“She’s a very nice filly,’’ McEvoy said.

Coco Sun won a Geelong maiden on debut on the same day fellow Oaklands Plate hopeful Deadly Press also scored.

McEvoy said the filly would need to take another step in Adelaide but had given no indication why she can’t be competitive in the late season two-year-old feature.

“She’s trained on well from an impressive maiden win,’’ McEvoy said.

“It’s a big step up but we think she’s a stakes class filly,’’ he said.

Coco Sun ($9 into $5) has been the horse punters feel can upset the Chris Bieg-trained Dubenenko who firmed into a $2.40 favourite with tab.com.au on Friday.

Dubenenko comes off a smart return to racing where she came from last to run past rivals at Murray Bridge and Bieg said the filly worked smartly on Tuesday, but her chances could come down to tactics from an inside barrier.

“It might become a little tactical,’’ Bieg said.

“My initial opinion is we won’t bustle her out from the barrier, maybe she can sit behind them and she’ll just need some luck late,’’ he said.
