King’s Birthday Honours for Former Country Racing SA Chair

Former Country Racing South Australian Chairman, and one of only two Life Members of Country Racing SA, Wayne Henson, has been awarded an Order of Australia Medal in the 2023 King’s Birthday Honours.

Wayne was awarded an OAM for services to Horse Racing and to Australian Rules Football. Wayne provided many years of service to the Balaklava Racing Club, Country Racing SA and the West Adelaide Football Club, culminating in his well-deserved Order of Australia Medal.

Country Racing SA CEO Chris Biggs said “It is wonderful to see Wayne recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours. His tireless work and services to horse racing, specifically country racing, deserves to have this recognition.”

Wayne was first appointed as a delegate to the predecessor body to Country Racing SA in 1996 after the State Government corporatized thoroughbred racing in South Australia and continued on the board for over twenty years. After years of work as a delegate, Wayne became Chair of Country Racing SA in 2014 and remained in that position until stepping down from the board in 2021.

In his role, Wayne was a presence at all country clubs throughout his tenure and was well known across all of South Australia.

At the Country Racing SA 2022 Annual General Meeting, Wayne was awarded life membership, one of only two people to be given this honour, and the most recent.

Congratulations Wayne on the award!
