Allen drawn perfectly in quest for five SA Derby wins

John Allen has the perfect barrier as he chases a third successive Adelaide Group 1 win aboard High Approach in Saturday’s $502,250 South Australian Derby (2500m) at Morphettville.

Former Adelaide horseman Dan O’Sullivan is the new trainer of the horse who comes a off a last-start fifth behind Major Beel in the ATC Derby in Sydney following the six-week suspension to trainer Archie Alexander last week.

Craig Williams heading to Brisbane to partner Giga Kick in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 will see Luke Nolen take the ride on last-start Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes winner Red Sun Sensation who drew a middle gate in barrier 10 while runner-up Loco has drawn barrier 15.

Ciaron Maher and David Eustace will saddle up two runners.

Stable newcomer Promises Kept has drawn nine for Mark Zahra while Ben Allen will partner Ain’t He Grand who drew barrier 17.

Champion New Zealand jockey Opie Bossom will have to overcome the extreme outside barrier with Chairman’s Stakes placegetter Suizuro, one of four runners for Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young.

Todd Pannell will ride Gottabesavvy, Captain Pluto will be ridden by Daniel Moor while Jake Toeroek has picked up the ride on Reservoir Dog for the Victorian stable.

South Australia’s lone runner will be the Travis Doudle-trained Prince Tikea who drew nicely in barrier three and will be ridden by Dom Tourneur.

Perth filly She’s Fit, who was narrowly beaten in the Australasian Oaks, is marked a $4.50 favourite with tab.com.au ahead of the Promises Kept ($6) while the Robbie Griffiths and Matthew de Kock-trained Aberfeldie Boy, who finished third in last year’s Victoria Derby, is the only other horse under doubles figures marked an $8 chance.
