Richard and Chantelle Jolly enhanced their impressive Melbourne record with Aitch Two Oh’s win in Thursday’s $300,000 Group 3 Red Roses at Flemington.
It was the daughter of Headwater’s fourth win from just seven starts fighting off her more fancied rivals with James McDonald in the saddle.
“We’re not sure what we will do with her yet,’’ Jolly said.
It could have been a massive day for the stable with See You In Heaven luckless running third in the $175,000 Listed Desirable Stakes (1400m).
After getting back in the run, See You In Heaven weaved a passage late to be beaten just two lengths behind Razeta and the stable will look at taking on the boys in the Group 2 Sandown Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield later this month.
“She should have walked in,’’ Jolly said.
“She’ll go to the Sandown Guineas now,’’ he said.
The one downside to their Melbourne success was the fact both horses had new riders after jockey Jake Toeroek had his Melbourne flight cancelled on Thursday morning and unable to secure a replacement.
Fellow South Australian Grey River was game in defeat in the Desirable Stakes, trainer Jon O’Connor planning another Melbourne mission which will come in the Listed Twilight Glow Stakes over 1400m at Caulfield later this month.
