David Jolly is hoping it will be a case of third time lucky when Calypso Reign tackles the Listed Chautauqua Stakes at Moonee Valley on Saturday.
It will be the talented grey’s third trip to Melbourne, and he crosses the border on the back of an impressive win in the Group 3 Spring Stakes at Morphettville last month which prompted connections to throw the horse in the deep end.
One key to unlocking the horse interstate could be the booking of Victorian jockey Alana Kelly, Calypso Reign proving to be a ladies’ man having had a female in the saddle in all eight of his wins.
South Australia’s leading rider Kayla Crowther has ridden Calypso Reign in six of his eight wins while Sophie Logan was board for the other two.
“That’s the reason behind it (Kelly’s booking),’’ Jolly said.
“The girls have an impeccable record on him, that might be circumstantial, but we will stick to what we know.
“We offered Kayla the ride, but she’s opted to stay here for a few nice rides,’’ he said.
Despite his impressive record, Calypso Reign is marked a $12 chance with tab.com.au.
