Lomax to bounce back at Morphettville?

Murray Bridge trainer Paul Carey is hoping for a genuine tempo when Lomax returns to city racing at Morphettville on Saturday.

The late Brian Mueller trained the horse early in his career and still carries Mueller’s colours - the Brown, Light Blue Diamonds after he was purchased by Carey and Jess Giles earlier in the year.

“That was Jess’ plan when we bought the horses off Brian,’’ Carey said.

“She wanted to keep his name in the horse, but that was going to be tricky, so we ended up racing him in Brian’s colours and the family were happy with that,’’ he said.

Carey said despite winning two of his past three starts Lomax’s chances would all hinge on how the race was run.

“He’s been racing well, but in his two wins, he got the tempo he needed,’’ Carey said.

“Being a backmarker is hard, if there is no pace in the race, he can’t run home quick enough but that’s been different at those two wins back in class, we just need something similar on Saturday,’’ he said.
