Gytrash honoured with SA feature racing series

Recently retired South Australian sprint star Gytrash will be honoured with his own racing series in season 2022-23.

The Gytrash Series will sit alongside five other features named in honour of some of SA’s best horses of the modern era and be run on SA racing’s new feature day - TAB Finals Day - on Saturday November 12 at Morphettville.

The nine-race TAB Finals Day will also incorporate three races named after the 2022 South Australian Thoroughbred Racing’s Hall of Fame inductees – all Provincial and Country level finals - with all races set to carry a prizemoney in excess $100,000.

The 2020 SA Horse of the Year will now sit alongside the Rebel Raider, Happy Trails, Viddora, Skybeau and Riziz with a race series named in their honour, the Gytrash Series Final an Open 1100m Sprint.

“I’m quite proud,’’ trainer Gordon Richards said.

“I’ve never given any thought to him being honoured with something like this, I’m proud, and I am sure his large group of owners would be as well.

“He was a great horse to us, giving us a Group 1 and going to an Everest twice.

“There were some heart aches along the way, but the joy he gave us on the track far outweighs that,’’ he said.

Racing SA CEO Nick Redin said TAB Finals Day would be a unique day in the South Australian racing calendar.

“We’re really excited about the benefits this day will bring for the local industry. It’s about creating a race day event that will honour our most celebrated participants, our Hall of Fame inductees, while providing an additional day of quality racing for participants and punters alike,” Redin said.

“Finals Day means Morphettville will now have an additional feature race day and one aligned with the back-end of Victoria’s Spring Racing Carnival,’’ he said.

For the first time SA Racing’s Hall of Fame will be held as a standalone event as a part of TAB Finals Day in the Terrace Bar at Morphettville.
