South Australia will be without a runner in Saturday’s $5m All-Star Mile at Flemington after Regalo Di Gaetano was withdrawn on Tuesday.
Jockey Jake Toeroek said the horse just wasn’t right which forced trainers Richard and Chantelle Jolly to scratch the horse from the feature.
“He galloped this morning and just wasn’t right,’’ Toeroek said.
“It doesn’t seem like anything major, but he just wasn’t his usual self.
“That’s horses,’’ he said.
Regalo Di Gaetano recorded the fourth highest number of votes in All-Start Mile voting and finished 11th behind Mugatoo last year.
His scratching now means Toeroek will be left with a light book of rides in Adelaide after expecting to be riding in Melbourne on the weekend.
“I’ll only have a couple of rides in Adelaide now which is a bit disappointing,’’ he said.
The Jolly stable will now focus on sprint star Kemalpasa who will trial at Murray Bridge on Thursday morning ahead of Friday week’s Group 1 William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley.
Kemalpasa was originally targeting last weekend’s Group 1 Newmarket at Flemington, but a slight foot issue forced the stable to change plans and head to the William Reid.
The Murray Bridge trial will also feature the Tony and Calvin McEvoy-trained Rock The Ring who hasn’t raced since the Christmas Handicap at Morphettville in December.
