Jamie Kah enhanced her claims as the greatest rider South Australia has produced returning home to claim her first Adelaide Cup at Morphettville aboard Daqiansweet Junior.
The rise of Kah from star apprentice to one to the countries best riders has been nothing short of spectacular and she put on a clinic at the track where she crafted her early career producing a picture-perfect Cup ride to give local horseman Phillip Stokes a second successive Adelaide Cup victory.
Kah, who came close to Adelaide Cup success running second board Tunes in 2016, said despite all her success at the top level, winning an Adelaide Cup was truly special.
“This is definitely up there,’’ Kah said.
“It’s always been a race I wanted to win, I’ve been close before.
“To do at home in front of friends and family, for Phil (Stokes), his team and OTI, I couldn’t have planned it any better,’’ he said.
Kah said Daqiansweet Junior always gave the impression he could be a top stayer.
“The first time I sat on him I thought he could be an ideal Adelaide Cup horse,’’ Kah said.
And she said she thought she had pulled the wrong rein working off the fence down the side as the leading pair of Good Idea and Aurora’s Symphony tried to open the race up.
“I almost messed up, I got off the back of Tigertiger, but I was wrapped of how strong he was late,’’ she said.
For Stokes, being able to be in Adelaide this year, after missing Good Idea’s win in 2021 due to COVID restrictions, was a great feeling.
“It (Adelaide Cup) was always in the back of our mind,’’ Stokes said.
“Last year I wasn’t here so it’s great to be here.
“The Sydney Cup is on the radar,’’ he said.
Kah won five of the first eightraces at Morphettville winning the Listed Cinderella Stakes aboard Bistro for the Godolphin juggernaut, the G M Humm Handicap aboard Tully’s Gold and claimed the Listed Matrice Stakes aboard Ironclad for Will Clarken. Kah then stromed home to win the Morphettville Guineas aboard Ancient Girl.
