James Jordan has delivered a track report and speed maps for each and every race on Adelaide Cup day!
TRACK REPORT
Winning Post-1800m: Good coverage, nice amount of give. Barely any wear to speak of and I’m expecting it to race well. Nothing to report here.
1800-1200m: Straight line section here with very little to report. The coverage is really good, the entire track is a bed of kikuyu and this section is free from any wear.
1200m-800m: Again, the coverage is very strong and there’s plenty of give in the surface. If anything, I found it slightly harder work against the fence but tipping the horses are a lot fitter than me. No wear to speak of, should race well.
800m-400m: Walks well, if anything the fence at the 600m mark is a little softer through a small section. Might be a slight edge to be just off the fence here. Coverage and give still perfect.
400m-Winning Post: Still an impressive surface in this section. If anything still thought slightly more effort required to push along against the fence. Coverage is good and the give is there.
Verdict: Very hard to fault this track. Coverage is rock solid, with a great pad of kikuyu grass right around. I thought that hard on the fence might be slightly slower from the chute to the winning post, so I wouldn’t be against backing horses that you know are going to be swooping from midfield and behind. I’m expecting it to race as a ‘4’ for the majority of the day.
Track walked 11am, Sunday 13 March 2022.
