Bonuses add to Oxlade's winning weekend

The Strathalbyn stable of Shane Oxlade will be hoping a successful weekend at Murray Bridge can continue at Morphettville next week.

Stable favourite One More Jack was back winning form, two-year-old Sghirripa finished third in the Magic Millions 2yo Classic while Famous Prince was just behind the placegetters.

Aside of their prizemoney the three horses also claimed almost $10,000 in Racing Rewards SA bonuses, while all three were the first Racing Rewards SA qualified horses’ home in their respective races. Those results also meant Oxlade secured connections a valuable $10,000 voucher to spend at next week’s Adelaide Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

“That was a good result,’’ Oxlade said.

“They all went well. Sghirripa did a good job, that’s the first time he’d ever raced greenly.

“Up until then he’d done everything right, but he may have just remembered being knocked over at his first start, so he did a good job to box on and run third in the end,’’ he said.

While Oxlade has fresh ammunition heading to the sale which has proven a successful hunting ground for many, his immediate focus will be on Monday’s $400,000 Group 2 Adelaide Cup when his staying mare Eperdument will line up for her third crack at the 3200m feature.

Eperdument finished 11th behind King Of Leogrance in 2020 before a career best performance last year when she finished runner-up behind Good Idea.

Coming off a third placing in the Group 3 Lord Reims, Oxlade said Eperdument was tracking in similar order to last year.

“She’s going well,’’ Oxlade said.

“She was a bit unlucky in the Lord Reims, she was on the favourite, and it didn’t take her anywhere, but she’ll be there next Monday and run an honest race again,’’ he said.
