Inaugural Premier's Plate this Saturday

The inaugural Premier's Plate will take place at Morphettville on Saturday, February 12, and Premier Steven Marshall will attend to present the official plate to the winner and connections.

The Premier's Plate was instigated by Racing SA to recognise the Government’s assistance to the industry.

“The racing industry in South Australia is thriving thanks to our unparalleled investment in the sector,” Premier Marshall said.

“We've committed more than $30 million to racing and when you look at all the fantastic projects that are being delivered across the state, you get a picture of how we are helping support and grow jobs in the racing industry.

“I can’t wait to watch the inaugural Premier’s Plate and appreciate the recognition of our commitment to helping the industry flourish.”

The Premier's Plate, formerly known as the Birthday Cup, is Race 7 on the card at Morphettville. A quality field will contest the 2037m distance including South East star Hasta La War which narrowly missed out on a Melbourne Cup berth, the McEvoy trained Strathalbyn Cup winner Resurge, and the consistent Dexter You Devil which has 13 race wins including the past two Port Lincoln Cups.

This will be the first time in many years that the Premier has attended the races.

“The thoroughbred racing industry here in SA is going from strength to strength and we are proud of the strong relationship we have with the State Government,” said Racing SA CEO Nick Redin.

“It’s great that the Premier is able to come along to Morphettville and experience for himself the wonderful atmosphere of race day, and be on hand to present the inaugural Premier's Plate.”

The total prize pool for the Premier's Plate is $107,250.
