Sylvan Crest's fairytale farewell

Not many horses get a fairytale ending, but Sylvan Crest is destined for a life of luxury after farewelling the racetrack in style at Gawler on Wednesday.

“He’s going to a nice green paddock,’’ owner and co-trainer Wayne Francis said.

“Not many horses finish with a win, I’ve had a few people say we should keep him going given how well he won on Wednesday but it’s a great way to finish.

“He’s a lovely horse, he will spend his days keeping an eye over the young horses and educating young riders at the farm,’’ he said.

The Francis and Glen Kent stable is enjoying a solid run since August training 10 winners from their last 60 runners, while jockey Barend Vorster has been in the saddle for 10 wins in 44 rides for the stable.

And that combination will try and continue at Morphettville on Saturday with lightly raced filly Champagne Dreams.

Francis said like any stable they have their runs and said Champagne Dreams was a horse burdened by winning impressively on debut Morphettville back in March.

“It’s always the way when they win on debut, they carry some expectations,’’ Francis said.

“She has been working well,’’ he said.
