Dexelation chases consecutive Victorian victories

Underrated South Australian sprinter Dexelation will be trying to complete a short but extremely successful spring campaign in Saturday’s $150,000 Apache Cat Classic (1000m) at Cranbourne.

The Richard and Chantelle Jolly-trained gelding has turned around a luckless winter and chases his third win in succession after a first-up win at Morphettville before scoring at Moonee Valley on Cox Plate Day.

“It looks a similar field to his last race,’’ Richard Jolly said.

“There should be enough speed in the race to suit him and hopefully the track is playing so you can run on,’’ he said.

Dexelation will be ridden by Craig Williams and his chances will only be enhanced by the expected wet conditions.

Cranbourne was rated a Soft 6 on Friday morning with more rain on the way.

“It’s going to be wet,’’ Jolly said.

“There is a fair bit of rain forecast so he’s going to get the sting out of the ground.

“That will probably help him more as it will be more like an 1100m. It looks a race he can run very well in,’’ he said.

The stable has abandoned a Queensland campaign with Karacasu who was being targeted towards the Magic Millions Carnival on the Gold Coast after coming down with a virus, while smart filly See You In Heaven won’t be seen until the New Year following her brilliant win at Flemington on Oaks Day.

“There are a lot of options for both horses here in Adelaide next year,’’ Jolly said.
