Beau Rossa chasing riches in sunshine state

Will Clarken is planning a northern raid with exciting South Australia sprinter Beau Rossa.

Western Australian COVID-19 protocols put a line through interstate horses competing at the 2021 Perth Summer Carnival which ruled out a tilt at the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes, while a minor setback has forced the leading trainer to switch his focus to Queensland.

“He’s actually picked up a little bug and missed a bit of work this week,’’ Clarken said.

“So he’s having an easy few days and will go straight to Queensland,’’ he said.

The Group 1 Memsie Stakes runner-up is being set for the rich 2022 Magic Millions Raceday on the Gold Coast which will see him run first-up at Doomben on Boxing Day as a lead-up.

“All being well he’ll run in the Listed Falvelon (1200m) on Boxing Day,’’ Clarken said.

“He’ll get the maximum weight, whatever that will be, but that will work nicely being three weeks before the Snippets,’’ he said.

The $1m Magic Millions Snippets has been a good race for South Australian horses with Viddora running second in 2017 before winning the 2018 edition, while Kemalpasa finished on the heels of the placegetters in 2020.
