Regalo Di Gaetano booked a shot at the $500,000 Ballarat Cup with a second successive John Letts Cup win at Morphettville on the weekend.
Coming off a Murray Bridge Gold Cup victory, Regalo Di Gaetano was ridden confidently by Jake Toeroek to control the race from outside the leader before holding off a late dive from Sign Of Ussuri.
He was the second leg of a winning double for Toeroek in combination with the Richard and Chantelle Jolly stable after Wild Imagination scored earlier in the day. The stable missing a two-state treble with Kemalpasa narrowly beaten at Flemington in his quest for a third straight Group 3 Linlithglow Stakes.
The Jolly family had plenty of reason to celebrate with brother David winning the $102,250 Riziz Series Final with promising sprinter Calypso Reign who stormed down the outside to defeat Hello Ladies. Calypso Reign's win gave Kayla Crowther a winning double, while Barend Vorster took riding honours with a treble.
Vorster, who was keeping a close eye on the Victoria Derby at Flemington hoping Forgot You could win his place in the Melbourne Cup where he was on standby to ride, won with Victorian visitor Riotous Mischief, Aston Rapova and the Tony and Calvin McEvoy-trained Rock The Ring.
Rock The Ring was again impressive and confirmed himself as one of the most improved horses in the state when he made it three straight victories beating Extra Time by almost three lengths.
But the win that had everyone talking came at Bordertown 24 hours earlier when Stacey Metcalfe produced a stunning piece of riding to win aboard the Kristi Evans trained Keysor.
Metcalfe lost her irons midrace but was good enough to keep the horse going and fight of Mulga Lil in a tight finish.
