Clarken opens brand new Fleurieu facility

Leading SA trainer Will Clarken has announced the opening of a new state-of-the-art training centre at Sellicks Hill on the Fleurieu Peninsula.

The training centre is expected to create a number of new jobs with Clarken Racing, with the expansion meaning the business requires several roles, including a Stable Manager and Site Maintenance Person.

The facility and will complement the stable’s training facilities based at Morphettville, where Clarken Racing currently has 45 boxes.

“This significant financial investment demonstrates the confidence I have in the rejuvenation of racing in South Australia under the leadership of Racing SA,” Clarken said.

“Over the years I have become increasingly aware that an off-course training facility will help my team maximise the performance of our horses.

“I am immensely proud that the success of Clarken Racing has enabled me to purchase the perfect property to start creating a specialised training centre 30 minutes from our Morphettville base, and five minutes from Silver Sands beach.

“With this new resource and our 45 boxes on course at Morphettville, we will be able to build on our goal of training each horse as an individual and catering for the full spectrum of every horse’s needs.

“We also expect to be able to provide six to 10 new jobs on site, plus the flow on supply for local industries.”

Once complete, the property will offer an 800m heavy sand track, high speed treadmill, dressage and jumping arena, horse walkers, sand rolls, day yards, boxes and turn out paddocks.

“The keystone of the property is its proximity to several beaches which is obviously ideal for thoroughbred training, water work and recovery,” Clarken said.

“I’m looking forward to welcoming our ownership group to the property once it is up and running to showcase what this beautiful part of our great state has to offer.”
