After two false start for the Clare Valley Racing Club, it looks like it will finally have its chance for a race day, with the Clare Cup confirmed for Monday 25 January, 2021.
It was a disappointing blow for the Clare Valley Race Club when earlier this year its Easter race meeting was cancelled, along with Oakbank, due to COVID-19.
The Clare Easter race day is arguably the biggest race day on the club’s calendar and a crowd favourite, with many making the pilgrimage to the valley for the long weekend.
Adding further to the club’s disappointment, its Cup meeting, scheduled for Sunday 22 November, was also cancelled due to COVID-19, this time via the State Government’s introduction of its circuit-breaker lockdown.
Thoroughbred Racing SA (TRSA) CEO, Nick Redin, said: “TRSA worked closely with the club to ensure that its cup could be rescheduled to another date as we recognise the importance of this event to the local community. We wanted to be able to give the region a day where it could get together and recognise the challenges of the past year – and celebrate its achievements in hosting a much-anticipated race day.”
Clare Valley Race Club secretary, Tanya Bertelsmeier said: “The club is ecstatic to be able to confirm the cup day in January. Everyone has worked so hard to make sure that the track is ready and the place is looking great, so that the day will be a success.”
