Weiwei’s Friday trip to Penola

South Australia’s leading stable of Tony and Calvin McEvoy stable make a rare appearance in the South East today with Classic Weiwei headed for Penola.

A former above-average youngster, Classic Weiwei showed plenty of potential, winning the Port Adelaide Guineas and running third in the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes in his three-year-old season before running down the track behind Qafila in the Group 1 SA Derby.

He finished third in the Port Lincoln Cup behind Dexter You Devil earlier in the year and looked to have come back to racing well when placed behind Aqueduct at Morphettville on the Parks track, before running down the track behind Dr Dependable.

The stable will be hoping to secure a start in the $100,000 Southern Speed Series Final at Morphettville on Boxing Day via the Benchmark 72 race at Penola where he opened a $2.40 favourite with tab.com.au in a field of six.
