EACH-WAY: DIAMOND TYCOON (Race 6)
RACE 1 - 12:45PM Philmac / SABOIS Maiden Plate (900 METRES)
SELLIX is running out of chances with nine placings from her 15 starts but the drop back from 1100m to 900m after she was run down last time appeals. She’s come up very short after scratchings so happy to bet around ACUMINATE who finished fourth in a recent Morphettville trial behind Short Stories. The Jolly stable is ticking along nicely. POWERFUL FLYER draws a gate and can run well fresh, ATTACK THE PIN looks the value at a price.
SELECTIONS: ACUMINATE, Sellix, Attack The Pin
RACE 2 - 1:20PM Team Poly / SABOIS Maiden Plate (1400 METRES)
SPARKUP looks nicely suited here he was very good coming from a long way back to run 3rd behind Deep Speed at Morphettville two starts back before another solid effort behind Star Of Uma last time. That’s good form for this, he draws a nice gate and the blinkers go on. CLUB DOUBLE has been good his past three all here over the 1400m, the problem is a wide gate. Any early luck he does look a danger. HEAVENLY AWARD was sent out a $2.25fav when well beaten behind The Haitian Poet at Strathalbyn. She trialled well prior and has some important gear changes here, notably the addition of blinkers. CELTIC VALOUR was sent out a short-priced favourite against the older horses last time when he faded late. He gets the tongue tie here and is right in this on his best form. AFRICAN AWESOME had specking behind stablemate So You Can on debut back in May and was kept safe in the market first-up. CAPRICORN RIDGE has placed in his past couple but another not helped by an awkward wide draw. CONQUEST OF TEARS trialled OK behind Adventure World recently.
SELECTIONS: SPARKUP, Club Double, Celtic Valour
RACE 3 - 1:55PM Vinidex Class One Handicap (1400 METRES)
TIGNANELLO won a Sale maiden in February and was tested a couple of times in town over the border. He’s got some gear changes here and draws a good gate. Looks the top pick based on the McEvoy stable’s record here alone. YULE MY HERO had good backing and was only reeled in late at Strathalbyn last time. His overall record is good for a race like this and he gets in well with the claim from gate three. RISING THUNDER will appreciate the drop in grade on last time behind La Richesse at Morphettville. Likewise SOWPODS comes out of the same race and was $4.20 into $3.90 but beaten 10.4 lengths. He was placed at Morphettville three starts back which is a good form for a race like this. PIERRO’S PROMISE came from well back to run 2nd here two stars back and draws a good barrier. FAST DEALER is in the clever hands of the Frew stable and draws well with Jason Holder riding.
SELECTIONS: TIGNANELLO, Yule My Hero, Sowpods
RACE 4 - 2:30PM Coonara Benchmark 52 Handicap (1600 METRES)
FLYING PIERRO was a Gawler winner over 1700m three starts back and looks better suited here back to a mile. The claim helps offset his big weight. MEADOWS YOUNG BUCK was a winner here over 1800m five runs back and defeated Rapid Raiser over 1700m at Gawler two starts back. He was on speed when down the track behind Getouttheway at Morphettville last time. He looks better suited here at the mile, but has a lot of weight. GOLDIE GURU strips fitter for one run back from a spell and has upside. DELUXE DESIGN draws well and can figure.
SELECTIONS: FLYING PIERRO, Goldie Guru, Meadows Young Buck
RACE 5 - 3:05PM DAB / SABOIS Plus Maiden/Class One Plate (2000 METRES)
GRACIEBIRD ticks a lot of boxes for a race like this. She won well here over 1400m two back before she was only grabbed late by Biarchi who tackled the Victoria Oaks at her next start last time out. PAY THE MAN won his maiden over a mile at Balaklava in March and his recent efforts have been OK. He got a long way back and was only narrowly beaten by Karpool Khan here on Cup Day. That’s good form for this and he gets his chance. FREE ATBARA looks over the odds, she was ridden confidently on speed and beat all but Floriano at Gawler last week. She’ll roll forward and is sure to give a bit back slightly in trip. STERN IN GRINZING was good behind Varacalli Lad at Strathalbyn last time and looks to have some upside third up in SA. TUFF CAT worked to the line well over 2000m at Gawler, draws gate four and gets the help of the claim for Jacob Opperman.
SELECTIONS: GRACIEBIRD, Pay The Man, Stern In Grinzing
RACE 6 - 3:40PM Airr & Magill Grain Benchmark 58 Handicap (1600 METRES)
Open race. JACK’S A CRACKER has been placed at three of five starts here. He was good winning over the mile at Strathalbyn two back before jumping up in class and being beaten 6.1 lengths behind Coffee Amour last time. SKILLFUL STEPS is second-up and drawn a nice gate to improve. MASTER OF ZERPRISE is fitter and looks an improver here over the mile trip, DIAMOND TYCOON is another who should improve with one run back from a spell under her belt. TRIVAGO GIRL was good coming off the speed and winning at a price at Port Lincoln last time out. ANCIENT HISTORY wasn’t beaten far at Morphettville last time out and has three wins and two seconds from 10 starts this track.
SELECTIONS: DIAMOND TYCOON, Skillful Steps, Master Of Zerprise
RACE 7 - 4:15PM Orange Pumps Benchmark 54 Handicap (1000 METRES)
KITTY DAMOUR ran better at Gawler last time when ridden more positive and she looks to have found a winnable race. RANGER FRANK has come up favourite with tab.com.au in early markets. He won his maiden at Mt Gambier when last in work, LIBERTY BLUE’S Port Lincoln form is OK for a race lacking depth. HOT SIZZLE’S form reads pretty bad on paper but he can roll forward in a race like this and would take some beating at his best. THE STOCKBROKER is an interesting runner first-up in SA for Barry Brook. Was a Rockhampton winner three starts back.
SELECTIONS: HOT SIZZLE, Kitty Damour, Liberty Blue
RACE 8 - 4:50PM AAP Benchmark 54 Handicap (1200 METRES)
SIR JOHNSON has been placed at eight (two wins) from his 24 starts and was placed behind Icecrusher at Balaklava before a spell. He looks appealing in a race like this. WOULDA THOUGHT SO draws a nice gate and wasn’t beaten far behind Lancaster Sound last time out. That’s pretty handy form for this, but he is unplaced at all five runs here. KILOWATT will make the speed from his wide gate and was runner-up behind Miss Mosh at Naracoorte three starts back and his past couple behind The Difference and You Hadme At Hello were Ok, especially dropping back sharply in class. MINNAMOSA has claims on some handy form including a Port Lincoln win four starts back, CALYPSO STORM draws a good gate and has appeal in a race like this
SELECTIONS: SIR JOHNSON, Minnamosa, Woulda Thought So
