Tony McEvoy will again look at chasing black type races with promising filly Amuri after her brilliant win at Morphettville on Saturday.
The filly had shown enough at home to be thrown in the deep on debut in the Listed Cap D’Antibes at Flemington before backing-up a creditable performance with a dominant 6.2 length win against some handy opposition.
“She’s a really talented filly,’’ McEvoy said.
“She’ll go back to a Stakes race now, she’s got a big future,’’ he said.
Despite possessing enormous talent, McEvoy said the filly, who was passed in for $190,000 as a yearling after failing to meet her $220,000 reserve, had been hampered by breathing issues throughout the early part of her career
“She’s just always had a beautifully action, great economics, (and) faster than most,’’ McEvoy added.
“She’s had throat surgery; she’s had a bit of a chequered time but looks like she’s getting enough oxygen there now,’’ he said.
The stable made it a double when Vancity Gem made it two wins from as many starts with a gritty win after working hard from her wide gate and fighting off rivals with Barend Vorster in the saddle.
Vorster shared Saturday riding honour with Jessica Eaton who continues to thrive in Adelaide.
Meanwhile Richard Jolly said talented youngster Alleboom may have put the biggest gear change he will ever experience on hold following his impressive return to winning form.
Jolly said they will be forced to geld the promising youngster who is struggling to maintain focus on the track and not on the fillies.
“It will be happening soon,’’ Jolly said.
“He’s starting to get a bit coltish, I think that bought him undone at Balaklava his mind wasn’t on the job,’’ he said.
Jolly said their confidence was high following a nice track gallop earlier in the weekend alongside smart sprinting stablemate Kemalpasa which only grew after the he ran a super race to be narrowly beaten at his return to Melbourne in the Group 2 Gilgai Stakes earlier in the day.
“We worked him with Kemalpasa on Tuesday morning and he was only two lengths behind him,’’ Jolly said.
“We put the blinkers on (today) rode him a bit more positive,’’ he said.
Jolly said they would look for another suitable sprint race in Melbourne with Kemalpasa who’s spring appear back on track despite an interrupted campaign.
“He ran a terrific race, he was really disadvantaged at the weights against some good horses,’’ Jolly added.
“We can get him into a better race at the weights, he’s back in form,’’ he said.
